ingredients:
the good, the bad, and the ugly...

We encourage you to check out the labels on your hair, skin, body, dental, personal hygiene products, and beauty cosmetics. There are many "known to cause cancer", and "endocrine disruptors", and"toxic" ingredients out there that are perfectly legal (in this country) for companies to put in their products.

Over the last 100 years, the rate of cancer in the U.S. has sky-rocketed from 1 out of 800 people diagnosed, to 1 out of 3 today. Scientists are racing to find the cause of the alarming rise in the instances of Autism and ADD. Are you wondering WHY? What is so much different in our lives now than 50 or 100 years ago? Many people believe that our food supply may be the reason (since the increases started with the emergence of processed foods, preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, and synthetic chemicals).

But there's also another difference...

Back before the industrial age came along, the types of chemicals that touched our skin were pretty much those that the Earth made on her own. Today it's a different story. What you are putting on your skin day after day, year after year, may be doing much more harm than good. Stop and think about how many products you use every day, EVERY day, year after year.Soap or shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, deodorant, shaving creme, a myriad of hair products, perfume, make-up, lipstick, lip balm, etc. The cumulative affect personal care ingredients have on on our bodies is just emerging. Our skin is our biggest organ, and it absorbs what we put on it and passes it along to our bloodstream and internal organs. Rub some garlic on the bottom of your feet and see how long it takes for it to show up in your breath - shouldn't be more than 20 minutes. Tissue samples of everyday Americans show that we carry and store many of the chemicals in personal care products (and even clothing- we have a lot of fire-retardant stuff in us) that were previously thought couldn't penetrate the skin (remember the garlic). Like most people, you probably assume those ingredients penetrating our skin and coursing though our bodies are safe, right?  They have to be tested, right? They wouldn't be able to sell them if they knew an ingredient caused cancer, right?  Unfortunately, the answer to these three questions is "no". In

the United States, the personal care industry is largely unregulated. Surprisingly, the FDA has little control over what goes into the skin care products we all use. We do not support or advocate the government regulating yet another industry - what we do support is the ethical responsibility all companies have to their customers (and to mankind) to avoid or discontinue the use of an ingredient that has solid evidence of doing harm.
